So I went to see G.I. Joe last night (after having some delicious Kalbi<3) and man was it good! We were actually supposed to see Orphan but it started at 1045 and we didnt get to the theater until 11, where our 2nd option movie was to see G.I. Joe. Well, naturally I knew about Lee Byung Hun being in it, so that made me excited and I kept yelping out in the car, “I can’t wait to see Lee Byung Hun!!”
Anywho, we saw the movie and naturally from the start it was serious action. I felt that the movie was a little too loud and also a bit too much action to the point where it was hard to see what was going on and understand what was going on. The plot was very weak (trying to stop some warheads from blowing shit up…typical, right?) as was the screenplay; a lot of the lines were very “line-y”, or “punchline-y” I should say, which was very corny. Things like, “Try this missile on for size” and “That redhead is really starting to piss me off *que woman vs. woman battle*.
Channing Tatum and Sienna Miller are both very mediocre actors (Channing Tatum being more on the “Acting for Dummies” end) and I think that casting could have been better… ANYONE but Channing Tatum and perhaps Rosario Dawson instead of Sienna. Marlon Wayan’s was great and I was happy to see model-turned actress Rachel Nichols (she’s starting to get a lot of parts these days, and this was her first big blockbuster, I believe).
Anyway, onto the man of the hour, Lee Byung Hun! He was so cool in that movie and he played a bad guy, which is always memorable. I’m happy to say he had a significant part and significant lines in the movie and also he did NOT speak in Engrrish! He spoke very well, clearly and you could tell that he understood what he way saying. AND—he even took his shirt off! I was like, “HOT DAMN! BABY’S BEEN WORKING OUT!” Byung-hun is all tan and everything too… I loved it!
I’m gonna give this one 4-starfuit!
Please go see this movie and support Lee Byung Hun! I know this movie will put him on the map! I think this will along with Ninja Assasin will help open up more and more doors as asian actors continually take leading roles!
